Thermal Testing

DataPort 25 thermal testing was performed in a standard PC chassis. Two 7200 RPM IDE drives were installed in a DP25 carrier. An Iometer test was run to simulate a high-demand file server application. Temperatures were measured on the motors of both drives and the top of the upper drive. Highest temperatures were found on the drive motors. After two hours, 47.1C was measured on the upper drive motor. Subsequent measurements hovered around 46°C. To ensure accurate results, testing continued until after the drive temperatures had stabilized. After five hours of continuous testing, hard drive temperatures remained well below the drive manufacturer's specification for maximum operating temperature of 55°C

Features Benefits
Installs in any standard 3.5" floppy drive bay PC or MAC
Ideal for small form factor applications where space is critical Small PC's, mobile systems, surveillance, un-used floppy bay, etc.
Houses one or two 2.5" low profile IDE drives; either IDE or Serial ATA Double your storage capacity with striping or increase fault tolerance with RAID 1 mirroring
Universal frame supports both IDE & Serial ATA removable drive carriers Swap between either technology and maximize your hard drive investment
Retractable push-button eject mechanism Saves space and eases HDD carrier removal
New Frame Requires Only 5V Power Lower Power Draw; Easier to Use in Custom Applications

RAID Configuration
To prepare IDE drives for RAID 0 or RAID 1, you jumper one drive as a slave device. The master device on 2.5" drives is typically un-jumpered. Both drives are installed in the DP 25 carrier. A single IDE cable is used to connect the IDE connector on the frame to the RAID controller.

To prepare SATA 3Gb/s drives for RAID 0 or RAID 1, both drives are installed into the DP 25 carrier. Two SATA 3Gb/s cables are used to connect the SATA 3Gb/s connectors on the frame to the RAID controller.

The actual configuration of the RAID array is dependent on the brand and model of RAID controller used.
